January 1, 2007 (Press Release) --
A 9-year-old boy has uncontrollable facial tics and protracted blinking of the eyes. His head jerks back and forth and he gurgles.
Should he share this neurological disorder with his classmates?
Dylan Peters’ insightful book, TIC TALK – Living with Tourette Syndrome: A 9-year-old boy’s story in his own words (2007), is a lesson in tolerance and acceptance. All the illustrations are done by Dylan’s friend, Zachary Wendland.
Dylan has lived with TS since he was four.
“Dylan has done what most of us would not even think of doing, especially at such a young age,” writes Jim Eisenreich in the foreword. “He’s had the questions, but instead of waiting for the answers, he went ahead and made his own.” Eisenriech is a former Major League baseball player who has suffered with TS since childhood. The book also contains “10 Successful Strategies for working with children with Tourette Syndrome” by Brad Cohen, author of Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had.
Dylan lives with his parents and two siblings in Olathe, Kansas.
TIC TALK is a hardcover published by Little Five Star, a division of Five Star Publications, 4696 W. Tyson Street, Chandler, AZ 85226 ($14.95).
