January 10, 2007 (Press Release) --
Nintendo has sold an estimated 1.13 million Wii game consoles in Japan, with year-end sales figures for the device overshadowing Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation 3 consoles, game magazine publisher Enterbrain has announced.
In a report released at the start of the week, Enterbrain said Nintendo was expected to have sold 1.13 million game units as of Tuesday. The publisher said that about 980,000 Wii units had been sold as of the end of 2006, while Sony Computer Entertainment had sold only 460,000 of its PlayStation 3 consoles, signifying a clear win for Nintendo.
In the handheld market, combined sales of the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite consoles reached 13.95 million units. Sony Computer Entertainment managed to sell about 4.51 million of its PlayStation Portable consoles, again being overshadowed by Nintendo.
