January 10, 2007 (Press Release) --
Atlantic Beach’s Ocean Yoga joined efforts with the Sea Turtle Hotel to host the second annual Hubbard House New Year’s Day Free Yoga raising over $3100.
New Year’s Day 2007 was the most successful ever, with over 160 people in attendance of the two free yoga classes offered. Ocean Yoga business partners Paula Puopolo and Kate Cordell sight the union of missions for both their yoga studio and the Hubbard House- cultivating peace in every person. Says Puopolo, “The Hubbard House has always been a great organization to donate to because it does provide such an important service to victims of domestic violence- a safe place to become whole again, and in our small scale way yoga offers that same service.”
The turnout for this year’s benefit was the largest group of people practicing yoga together ever here at the beach, and raised over $3100 dollars that goes directly to the Hubbard House. The Sea Turtle provided its largest grand ballroom and the entire floor space was covered in a beautiful patchwork of yoga mats with over one hundred people showing for the first class and fifty people for the second class. Says Cordell, “It was an incredibly generous gathering of people from all over the beaches coming together – some never having done yoga before- to start their new year with a donation and to set an intention of keeping the flow of goodwill all year round.”
This was actually the forth annual New Year’s Day yoga class taught by Cordell, a Kripalu trained yoga instructor who teaches Gentle Yoga. When she and Puopolo, an Anusara Yoga trained instructor, partnered last year, they decided to create the chance for residents to give to a great cause as well as enjoy a special yoga class. Puopolo added, “It is something we’ve done at Ocean Yoga for years, but this year’s donation was the largest we’ve eve made. This yoga “kula”, or yoga community, is so caring and easily enjoys giving back to the non-profits in our neighborhood. The whole morning was so uplifting; we can’t wait for our next event!”
