January 14, 2007 (Press Release) --
Nicole Richie
What happened: The stick-thin reality star was arrested for a DUI early in December after several 911 calls reported an SUV driving the wrong way on a Los Angeles freeway.
What happened: Richie reportedly admitted she'd smoked pot and taken Vicodin to ease cramps.
Career damage? Because it's Richie's second DUI (the first came in 2002), the actress faces possible jail time. But careerwise, she's probably fine as, these days, a DUI seems to be the latest It Accessory.
Michael Richards
What happened: The "Seinfeld" alum spewed racial epithets at two African-American audience members after being heckled during a stand-up routine.
What happened: Pal Jerry Seinfeld declared that he was "sick" over the incident and Richards' apology, via satellite, on "Late Show With David Letterman" left many unmoved. Richards later made personal apologies to the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson.
Career damage? Sorry, but even pre-racist tirade Richards was beginning to fade from our collective memory.
Lindsay Lohan
What happened: In July the party girl received a reprimand from a studio boss while she was working on the film "Georgia Rule." In a letter, obtained by the Smoking Gun Web site, Morgan Creek Productions chief James G. Robinson decried the 20-year-old's "spoiled child" behavior and accused her of giving "bogus excuses."
What happened: Co-star William H. Macy echoed Robinson's views, calling Lohan "disrespectful." A publicist for the film later reported that the actress was, post-scolding, "on time and in great form."
Career damage? Amid rumors of a drug overdose, Lohan told People magazine she'd joined Alcoholics Anonymous. Good idea.
Paris Hilton
What happened: The heiress was arrested for a DUI in September.
What happened: Hilton blamed her miscue not on the booze but on the fact that she hadn't eaten.
Career damage? We're talking about Paris Hilton. No amount of bad press can make her go away.
