January 16, 2007 (Press Release) --
ATLANTA --- Four acclaimed cantors, Alberto Mizrahi, David Propis, Joel Fox, and Isaac Goodfriend will be performing at Ahavath Achim Synagogue, the largest and oldest conservative synagogue in Atlanta, on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.
The concert, entitled “L’Dor Vador” or “Generation to Generation,” will be held in honor of Hazzan Isaac Goodfriend. Goodfriend is cantor emeritus at Ahavath Achim where he served as cantor for 30 years. A Holocaust survivor, he sang the national anthem at the inauguration of President Jimmy Carter and is the author of By Faith or Fate.
Mizrahi, affectionately known as the “Jewish Pavarotti,” is cantor at Anshe Emet Synagogue in Chicago. Propis, famous for his role in “The Three Cantors,” is the cantor at Congregation Beth Yeshurun in Houston, the largest Conservative congregation in the United States. Fox, an internationally known performer of contemporary Jewish music, is cantor at Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Atlanta.
All four cantors have performed for countless audiences. Their expansive repertoires include traditional cantorial music (hazzanut), Chassidic classics, Ladino and East European folk music, opera, Broadway and popular music. As magnificent cantors, first-class musicians and performing artists, they grace synagogues and concert stages worldwide.
“Atlanta is fortunate to have this historic performance,” says Cantor Joel Fox. “This will be an experience people of all ages will enjoy.”
Ticket prices are tiered so as to make the concert affordable for people of all ages -- $10 for everyone 18 and under, $20 for those between 19 and 25, $36 for adults 26 and over. Contact AA Synagogue at 404-355-5222 for tickets and visit www.aasynagogue.org for more information
