When I started writing these poems, there were forces at work that I did not understand.
While the poems portray the central theme of Jesus Christ's teachings, miracles; His Suffering, Crucifixion, Death, Burial, and Resurrection, yet there is something else here too.
From His time to ours, people have not changed. The same old vices persist in the same old ways. Yet faith and hope also persist. If you read these poems closely enough, one notices human nature at work. What He saw then is what is seen now. The same old parade. What bothers me the most is the hypocrisy, the cruelty, and the blatant stupidity in our world today. A few "visionaries" counsel faith, but these voices are few and far in-between. One feels a little bit like Noah, or Jeremiah at times. The more I learn about people, the more I love my dogs.
I was baptized, confirmed and raised in the Protestant Episcopal Church, but was thrown out of it by a parish priest after my becoming a "Born-Again Christian". That has always haunted me because I was punished and persecuted for doing the right thing for the right reason! Jesus Christ Himself said that this would happen in the "Beatitudes" (Matthew 5).
For years afterwards, I wandered from Church to Church. Finally, became an ordained Baptist pastor, and found Baptists doing to other Baptists exactly what was done to me, even worse. Human nature is the same. So will be God's response to it.
Now, when I go to Church, I just worship the Lord, pray, and leave. Have learned that when a person walks with the Lord, he often walks alone with the Lord! And sincerely believe that Jesus Christ knew that all along from the very beginning. It has taken me my whole life to learn it! And between Him, my wife, myself, and my dogs, life has lead me thus well in that order. I should not complain, but the lessons learned have been hard. One will see that, plus hope, in these poems. Read between the lines. And trust only in the Lord!
I trust that you will be inspired by reading this book, "The Gospel in Poetic Form".
