January 23, 2007 (Press Release) --
Hollywood, CA (December 22, 2006) – Dave Pressler is a Los Angeles artist who is using sculpture and painting to fuse the world of fine art and the world of pop entertainment.
Pressler is an accomplished painter and sculptor whose original work shows in galleries and vinyl toy stores all around Los Angeles. As a sculptor Pressler has helped other artists cross over into the world of vinyl -- Pressler Sculpted the “Sour” characters, designed by Brendan Monroe -- “Camille's Girls”, designed by Camille Rose Garcia -- "Rabbit", designed by Ron English – and the soon to be released "Sundae Girls", designed by Fawn Gehweiler.
Pressler’s original art and his vinyl collaborations were featured this year in the art toy collection book “Dot Dot Dash” and in “Spectrum’s Fantastic Art Annual.”
In addition to his art projects, Pressler has developed character art for a number of television shows, including the distinctive look of "The Save-Ums", an animated adventure for preschoolers. The Save-Ums were nominated for an Emmy in 2006. http://www.saveums.com/start.html
For Pressler, art speaks in a secret and visceral code. Pressler’s work instinctively knows that accidentally swallowing a spider is a tragedy… unless it’s happening to someone else… then it’s cool.
Pressler’s art gravitates toward absurd, ironic, often comically dark themes: childhood weirdness, naughty misfits, toys turned strange. His new show, “The Dave Pressler Toy Explosion” premiers on Jan 30th, 2007 7-11 pm at Munky King.
