January 24, 2007 (Press Release) --
Ringgold, Georgia January 24, 2006 – Georgia native, Marnie L. Pehrson, took her historical fiction romance Angel and the Enemy to the Barnes and Noble Top 100 Best Seller’s list on December 2nd. The novel, set in the North Georgia/Tennessee area during the last days of the Civil War and thereafter, is timely in light of local representatives now gathering to plan for the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States.
Pehrson organized an Internet launch to over a half a million people on December 1st by pulling in favors from her friends and associates with newsletter lists. Together, Pehrson and her friends gave away over $700 dollars in ebooks and virtual products and services to everyone who bought the book on December 1st and 2nd through Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
"I chose BarnesandNoble.com for our primary launch because even though this was an online promotion, Barnes conveys a 'brick and mortar' feel to people’s minds. Becoming a Barnes and Noble best seller is the first step toward my dream of becoming a New York Times Best Selling Author," says Pehrson.
Most experts might say that Pehrson had two strikes against her with this campaign. First the book is fiction whereas non-fiction is traditionally easier to market in this fashion. Second, Angel and the Enemy is a "clean romance." As Aneeta Sundararaj of HowToTellAGreatStory.com expressed, "Having never read a piece of work specifically categorized as 'clean-romance' I was curious about this novel. I must admit that there was a part of me that thought that 'clean-romance' translated into 'boring'. Truth could not be further from reality. I was pleasantly surprised by how this story was not only deeply entertaining, it contained all of the ingredients for a great story which are suspense, drama and action."
Pehrson is cofounder of a web site that produces clean romance for women who are tired of graphic novels. Marnie Pehrson and her partner Marcia Lynn McClure formed the CleanRomanceClub.com site nearly three years ago because they believe that women deserve a little romance without the shock. They've found that there is a significant market for clean romance, especially on the Internet. Angel and the Enemy has proved that by reaching the Barnes Top 100 Best Seller’s list.
