January 27, 2007 (Press Release) --
Apple released "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001" (6.5MB), an update which fixes a vulnerability that affects both the server and client versions of Mac OS X and has been reported in November 2006. The vulnerability was disclosed by a hacker named LMH during his "Month of Kernel Bugs" project.
"An out-of-bounds memory read may occur while handling wireless frames. An attacker in local proximity may be able to trigger a system crash by sending a maliciously-crafted frame to an affected system." said Apple in its alert.
According to Apple, this issue affects the Core Duo version of Mac mini, MacBook, and MacBook Pro computers equipped with wireless. Other systems, including the Core 2 Duo versions are not affected.
On Tuesday, Apple fixed a flaw in its QuickTime media player. That vulnerability also had been publicized by LMH, during his January "Month of Apple Bugs" campaign.
