January 29, 2007 (Press Release) --
London, 24th January, 2007: Shocked by the level of irresponsibility shown in lending by leading banks, the Citizens Advice Bureau has decided to take matters in their own hands. Most banks lend more than what the consumers can afford.
Suman Antcliffe, money advisor at East Staffordshire Citizens Advice in Burton upon Trent, is horrified that most lending organisation in her area still continue to lend money to people who have little chance of repaying it. With able support from the town's Lloyds TSB branch, she has successfully written off the debts of six of her clients. She remarks: "The bank is working with us to help our mutual clients. The bank now realises it is not in anyone's interests to lend money to people who cannot afford to pay it back."
In response, Lloyds TSB stated that the advice from the Burton upon Trent Citizens Advice Bureau brought to their attention a couple of cases relating to loans arranged as far back as five years. As a result of internal investigations, two members of their staff at the Burton branch have now left the organisation.
