Good Mews provides humane care for 12 mistreated cats rescued from alleged hoarders home

ATLANTA - On January 31, 2007, Good Mews Animal Foundation along with other local animal rescue organizations helped Gwinnett County Authorities save numerous mistreated animals from an alleged hoarders home. Twelve of the cats were rushed to Good Mews for immediate care.

After receiving initial examinations by Good Mews vets and volunteers, most of the feline intakes will require dental procedures with multiple extractions, treatment for ear mites and one cat has been diagnosed with a heart murmur which will require an ultrasound.

Unfortunately, most likely all the cats will come down with an upper respiratory infection which will require more medical attention. All the cats that need dentals will also need antibiotics since their mouths are horribly infected, said shelter manager Shannon Crafton who helped check in the abused cats.

Dana Widmer, a Good Mews volunteer, worked with Dr. Melinda Merck of the ASPCA at the scene of the alleged animal hoarders home to assist with the rescue efforts. Cats from the home were placed at Good Mews, The Cat Clinic of Roswell, as well as other local animal rescue shelters.

Good Mews will provide medical attention to the 12 cats and eventually put them up for adoption.

Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs.
