February 7, 2007 (Press Release) --
New Delhi, Feb 5: Ahead of a major reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi has sought a performance report card of the all ministers belonging to Congress.
She has asked the prime minister's office that the report card should carry the failures and achievements of the departments headed by Congress ministers. A decision to include or exclude the ministers would be taken on the basis of performances.
Besides, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also advised the leaders of the UPA allies to prepare similar report cards of their ministers so as to give a new look to the government, which he says is committed to the common man.
There are indications that a major reshuffle of the Union Council of Ministers is likely to take place before the budget session of the parliament that begins on February 22. The insiders say the Congress President intends to sack atleast half a dozen of the central ministers, as there have been complaints against them.
The ministerial reshuffle would be followed by a change in the party organization, which has been kept on hold for a long time due to assembly elections in four states.
