R&B star R. Kelly -- awaiting trial on charges of child pornography -- has been hospitalized in Miami with appendicitis, his lawyers said Tuesday.

Kelly, 40, will miss a court date today as a result.
Lawyer Terence Gillespie said the singer is being treated at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital. Kelly traveled to Miami for the Super Bowl but had to enter the hospital the day of the big game, he said.
"He was admitted on the 4th of February, and he was operated on shortly after admission," Gillespie said. "He's recuperating fine."
Cook County prosecutors charged Kelly with 14 counts of child pornography in 2002 for allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
In December, Judge Vincent Gaughan ruled Kelly could travel out of state without court permission, though he must notify prosecutors of his plans.
