February 7, 2007 (Press Release) --
“Bowen’s turnkey solution will improve our city’s capacity to serve the water treatment needs of our community without the need to find additional funding sources or raising utility rates,” said Michael Fruth, City Engineer. “The improvements also will allow us to maintain our facilities and continue to provide abundant, low cost water to meet on-going economic development and residential demands.”
Using a Utility Energy Efficiency Program allows the Utility to take a one-stop shopping approach to the project and take advantage of the Guaranteed Savings and Guaranteed Costs to reduce the risks associated with other procurement methods. This approach allows the Utility to put more dollars into construction and less into paperwork.
Bowen will start the rehabilitation immediately and be substantially complete within four months. The $690,000 facility improvement project includes extensive maintenance and repair of the thirty year old, 2 MGD water treatment plant including: windows, doors, painting, control enhancements, heating and air conditioning, new high service pumps, and pipe rehabilitation. This modernization project reflects a continued effort of the administration of the city to provide superior service to the community using innovative programs while being good stewards of ratepayer dollars.
David Wrightsman, Director of Bowen’s Environmental Solutions Team, said, “This is the second such project Bowen has developed for an Indiana Utility, and follows on a successful new 4 MGD treatment plant project recently built by Bowen for Greenfield. We’re honored to be able to continue to serve the Utility and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the water treatment operation for the citizens of Greenfield. Using this approach not only reduces costs, it also increases the sustainability of the community’s infrastructure which is a win-win solution for everyone.”
Bowen Engineering is a 40 year old, Union General Contractor, focusing on water, wastewater and power construction. Headquartered in Fishers, Indiana the company has branch offices in Crown Point and Evansville, Indiana, Knoxville, Tennessee and Kenna, West Virginia. The company is employee-owned and self-performs over seventy percent of the work they engage in.
