The dirty little secret hospital do not report is what has happened for years abuse of health care workers, namely the registerd nurse. Every nurse has a abuse story. Just ask one you know.

I have been a nurse for 33 years. I was recently assaulted at work by a doctor. The scariest part people were all around ,other nurses, and doctors and no one said anything. I was told by coworkers the hospital has some financial issues,we need to work go home have some tea and a hot shower. He is like that, that doctor has a bad temper. He always throws things.
I felt cheap, abandoned like a throwaway. People always ask me what I did, did I provoke him in any way. I feel as if I always have to prove I did not do anything much like the women in domestic violence and date rape. I said to him do not hit me did he stop no. He hit me 4 times on my back hard enough to cause my bra straps clasp to bruise my back. The humilation always explaining having people say what did you do. My appetite is starting to come back my stomach still hurts and I can cry over anything. Why should I feel this pain I was a victim of this mad man that the hospital knew had this problem and they allowed him to continue working there. Something needs to be done.
STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST NURSES NOW
Patients that are confused,drunk,mentally impaired abuse nurses. Family that are frustrated abuse nurses. Physical assault against a nurse is routine. In the state of Massachusets if you assault a ER doctor it is a felony, a nurse a misdemeanor.
In NYC if you assault a bus driver or a conductor it is a felony. If you threaten or terrorize a nurse it is called part of the job, be professional. I have been called a whore, a prostitute, a black bitch, a nigger,. You have no one to complain to adminstration does not want to hear your story it is bad for customer realtions. Patient and their families are always right. I understand that this is a litgenous society we live in. Why do you think there is a nursing shortage younger women will not accept the things we older nurses have good for them.
I want people to know your nurse is your advocate your first line of defense she is there for your safety not for your to abuse or mistreat. Let us all get along so your healthcare needs can be met.
