February 16, 2007 (Press Release) --
New Delhi, Feb 13 : Failing to making a breakthrough in the illigal auto-routing case in which Reliance Infocomm and BSNL have reportedly been involved, the CBI is contemplating to appoint a specialist to crack the case.
The premier investigating agency of the country, the sources say would have already begun the process of shortlisting the names of the IPS officers who have expertise in dealing with the technicalities involved in the communications.
The sources say Arun Kumar, and IPS officer of the 1985 batch of UP cadres has emerged as front runner for the post. He was recently been promoted as Joint Director and moved to CBI headquarters here. Kumar, the insiders in the agency claim has an expertise in such cases which are too technical and has successfully cracked a few cases.
There are also reports that a special team headed by Kumar to deal speically with such cases is also being considered by the CBI director Vijay Shankar, who found him in a difficult situation while responding to reporters queries as to when the agency would be able to solve the high-profile cases.
The agency sources say another problem with the agency in solving the case is the non-cooperation by the BSNL: technicians. The CBI sleuths says they have not been able to understand the technical aspects as to how international calls were routed as local. "The way these technicians make us to understand is very complicated. So what we need is an expert in the field," said a senior agency official said.
He said the CBI chief is expected to discuss the progress made in the case shortly with the team, which has been entrusted with the investigation of the case. The officials attached with the team has also sought a technical expert.
Speculations are rife that the CBI might again question the persons it questioned earlier and also some more officials and technical staff of the BSNL. Also some more officials and technical employees of the BSNL.
