February 20, 2007 (Press Release) --
In seven years, co-founders Sue Katz and Lisa Thurman have built a cult following by getting their products into the hands that get the famous faces ready for their closeups -- makeup artists. And Sunday will be no different; this year, for the first time, they're giving goody bags to Oscar nominees and their makeup artists.
Carrie Underwood, Demi Moore, Naomi Watts, Drew Barrymore, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson, Teri Hatcher and Rebecca Romijn are some of Amazing's faces. Makeup artist Tym Buacharern used AmazingConcealer on all three Dreamgirls.
"Part of their job is to look phenomenal," Thurman said. "We're happy to help them do that."
It's been an amazing ride for two women who met at a playgroup called "Mini Monkeys" when their first children were small. Their second children were born three weeks apart, and as their kids grew and their friendship continued, they talked about starting some kind of makeup business.
A series of lucky breaks and the advent of the Internet helped them get launched. They started with one product: AmazingConcealer, a smooth, highly emollient concealer that erases flaws and shadows.
At a makeup artists convention in Los Angeles, they attended a lecture by Chantal Cloutier, founder of the agency that provides hair and makeup styling services for movies, television shows, magazine layouts, advertisements and music videos.
"We had a little goody bag with us, and we literally shoved our way through to her," Katz said. "She said, 'Come to my office tomorrow. I want my makeup artist to try it.' "
A month later they got a phone call from Joanne Gair, the makeup artist and body painter who did Moore's famous Vanity Fair covers.
