February 23, 2007 (Press Release) --
The main character is a detective that only works nights, doesn’t worry about guns and has something of a drinking problem - he drinks blood. Daily Variety reports Phoenix Pictures and Mike De Luca Productions are working up Already Dead as a feature film.
The project is based on a book by Charlie Huston, the first in a proposed five book series about a private eye that happens to be a vampire. The first novel follows the hero’s search for the missing daughter of a New York socialite who disappears at the same time a group of zombies emerges in the city. A second book in the series, No Dominion, is new on the bookshelves. Scott Rosenberg, who worked on Beautiful Girls and Con Air, will write the script, now that he has completed the screenplay for a new version of The Dirty Dozen.
Mike DeLuca has had some experience with urban vampires; while he was president of New Line Cinema, he oversaw the production of the Blade films. More recently he produced Ghost Rider and is now at work on 21. No production start date has been announced.
