February 25, 2007 (Press Release) --
Technology provider to the marine sector HJS Maritime Sdn Bhd (HJS) have secured two major Lighthouse Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) contracts from Jabatan Laut Semenanjung Malaysia.
The first contract is a four year maintenance contract to maintain a state-of-the–art LIGHTHOUSE SCADA system which was deployed by JLSM under its Phase 3 program a number of years ago to provide remote monitoring of lighthouses and light beacons. The maintenance contract will encompass the entire spectrum of the Phase 3 SCADA system where HJS will provide expertise in maintaining the Master Station (Port Klang), Local Stations (Port Klang, Pulau Pinang, Kuala Terengganu, Tanjung Pelepas) and Remote Stations (Pulau Angsa, Kuala Selangor, Tanjung Gelang, Tompok Utara, Panjang Utara, Panjang Selatan, Mudah Utara, Mudah Selatan, Muka Head, Pulau Rimau, Pulau Perak, Pulau Jarak).
The second contract is a greenfield project to provide a sophisticated LIGHTHOUSE SCADA system to monitor one lighthouse (Pulau Kuraman) and two light beacons (Tanjung Kubong, Pulau Papan) in Labuan. The Master Station will be situated at the headquarters of Jabatan Laut Labuan dan Laut China Selatan in Labuan. The system will ensure that any failures to the navigation aids at these locations will be quickly identified and corrected to ensure our waterways are safe to navigate.
HJS has signed a technology transfer agreement with a major supplier of marine technology products from Europe. It is anticipated that this technology transfer agreement will result in many spin-off technology developments being undertaken in Malaysia resulting in locally manufactured products which are of excellent quality and reduced cost.
“We are truly committed towards developing marine technology in Malaysia. At the moment there is no locally developed technology product that addresses the needs of the marine sector here. Marine products have to undergo rigorous certification procedures, which is a challenge to many companies in Malaysia due the lack of expertise.
However HJS has been involved in marine technology for many years and we have built in-house knowledge that allows us to venture into this field” said the Managing Director of HJS, En. Hamzah Abdul Wahab.
He also said that HJS is now developing a buoy monitoring system with very low power consumption for the Australian market.
