March 2, 2007 (Press Release) --
COLIN GALBRAITH’S long-awaited second chapbook, Poolside Poetry, was released on March 2nd, 2007. The book, which comes 14 months after the release of Fringe Fantastic, his highly acclaimed book of poems on the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, has already sold more through pre-booking requests than its predecessor.
Poolside Poetry is a humorous analysis of the stereotypical Scot while on holiday. It was written in the summer of 2006 and is quintessentially Galbraith, with its quick wit and cutting humour, balanced with reflective opinion and open poetry.
“It’s a book about being Scottish while abroad,” says Galbraith. “Being pale white, oddly shaped and constantly hiding from the sun sounds like a Scottish stereotype, but on the most part it’s entirely true. I started writing about it and before I knew it I had dozens of poems.”
When asked how many poems one could write about white Scottish people, Galbraith retorts, “It goes into other areas, too. At the time I was writing it, the war between Israel and Lebanon was raging. Cyprus also has a wonderfully tragic and beautiful history, so I felt inspired the whole time I was there.
There’s also a lot of deep and thoughtful poems to balance it out. Basically it’s 70-odd poems of contemplation, real-life incidents and observations. It’s a whole lot of fun!”
Was it all written by the poolside? “Most of it,” he says, smirking. “The rest was written on location, on the balcony, or in the bar. Quite a lot in the bar, to be honest.”
