March 6, 2007 (Press Release) --
Hollywood, CA – March 3, 2007. Today, Indian actor Jay Madhav (www.JayMadhav.com) announced the formation of his production company Dark Arts Productions (DarkArtsFilms.com). Madhav commented on his new company and plans for the future, saying that, “for some time I have been trying to combine my business experience and education with my love for cinema and my resume as an actor. Since I worked on the film Transit in 2005 which was produced by MTV International, I have had the desire to produce my own socially relevant films.”
Transit was an AIDS awareness feature shown widely in Europe as a critically acclaimed socially relevant piece regarding human rights and the AIDS crisis globally. Jay Madhav, who has seen a lot of changes in ethnic casting since 2000 said, “I’m excited about the idea of producing films with content that resonates with me and others like me. Producing my own films will give me another level of control over my creative projects.”
Few South-Asian actors have been as prominent in Hollywood and we expect that his producing efforts will be aimed at advancing opportunities for other minority performers.
Madhav has appeared on numerous TV shows including General Hospital, Mystery Medicine, The X Files, Da Vinci’s Inquest, and Stargate SG-1. All has proved very encouraging for South-Asian performers, since we all know that minority actors are underrepresented in the media. Many Canadian minority actors are wondering why their community representation is lacking on Canadian TV content. We watched many popular CBC series throughout 2006 and saw no Indo-Canadian actors, a community that comprises 20% of Vancouver metro area.
