March 7, 2007 (Press Release) --
The recent widespread reporting of the death of hip hop comes as no surprise to author and internationally renown educator and youth advocate, Prof. Alfred “Coach” Powell. Author of Hip Hop Hypocrisy: When Lies Sound Like the Truth, Prof. Powell has been hammering the nails on the coffin of gangsta rap since it invaded urban media and seduced his athletes into its prison-influenced world of drugs, sex, materialism, violence, and misogyny.
“Gangsta rap/hip hop dropped a bomb on children and teens throughout the world, especially in poor communities. It exposed our children to adult concepts much too early. The consequences have been devastating to their emotional health, behavior, and academic performance,” says Prof. Powell.
Hip Hop Hypocrisy posits a radical new paradigm for understanding the behaviors of this infected generation. Even the long-standing theories of child psychologists Piaget and Erikson are revisited in this must read book.
“This book is the body bag, coffin, nails, and obituary of gangsta Hip Hop, a movement that grew out of a more socially conscious value system, but somewhere along the line became so corrupted that no child under its influence is safe from spiritual, psychological, and social harm. Through its lyrics and video images, gangsta rap has strived to leave no child from the hood behind—in alcohol, tobacco, and drug use, STDs, unwanted pregnancies, crime, violence, and pornographic sex.” Preface, Hip Hop Hypocrisy
