For_Immediate_Release:

March 7, 2007 (Press Release) -- Local hockey recreation league team, Dunn Lumber Hockey Club, is skating with a cause.

Marc Fournier, the team captain confessed the team's excitement. "The guys kept asking me, 'How can I get involved too'?" Team elites are now bearing a banner to claim their aim: Big Brothers on Ice.

Thursday, March 1st, DLHC kicked-off a 100-day fundraising and public awareness campaign for the benefit of youth participants of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County. Their goal: to play 100 games in 100 days. These games are either league games or drop-ins.

In addition to the break-neck pace of getting these games accomplished, there are 2 more goals: to raise $10,000 and to recruit 10 new Bigs for waiting Little Brothers.

More than 80% of children waiting for a Big are boys, but only three out of every ten inquiries to volunteer come from men. Research shows that having the positive influence of a Big Brother makes a real difference in the life of a boy. "When a cause like this comes out, you expect to feel good about what you are doing; once you get in to it however, you realize that is you, yourself who is most impacted." admits DLHC member Scott Moore.

DLHC, through the Big Brothers on Ice campaign, aim to provide a prevention focused resource for boys who respond well with a male role model to guide, cheer and coach them. DLHC is scoring a goal for matches each match. "We're totally psyched about this campaign. We all love to play…but now we are skating for a greater cause!" Confessed team forward, Jon Vlasak.

DLHC, comprised of 15 heroes from various sectors of our community share a love of hockey, of community, and the future we have in our youth.

"Kenny," an 8 year old boy, is in the 2nd grade. Soon, his older brother will venture to college, leaving him at home with his mother and 16 yr old sister. Adopted at an early age from the foster care program, he has had both mother and father. Kenny's father was a caring and nurturing father, and died 2 years ago. DLHC's goal is to match 10 boys like Kenny who need a male influence in their youth lives.

Join Dunn Lumber Hockey Club in making a huge difference in the life of a child. Come to cheer their game at the Everett Events Center, March 29th, at 7:45pm.
