It’s a biographical film for Sigourney Weaver again, but this one is a long way from gorilla expert Dian Fossey. Daily Variety reports the actress will follow up her turn in James Cameron’s long awaited science fiction epic Avatar with Gypsy and Me, an HBO telefilm in which she’ll play Gypsy Rose Lee. Lee’s early career and the life of her legendary stage mother form the basis behind the storyline for the perennial musical Gypsy.
The telefilm will begin far later, in the 1950s’ when Lee decides to give up stripping and becomes a bestselling author, a professional celebrity, and incidentally, gets her life story turned into a very successful musical.
The film will be based somewhat on the book My G-String Mother, written by her son, Erik Lee Preminger, son of director Otto Preminger, something he didn’t find out until after his mother’s death.
Weaver will also serve as Executive Producer on the film.
The rap star has had several run-ins with law enforcement in the past year. Police say he's driven with a suspended license, beaten his former driver in a dispute over money, and talked on a cell phone while driving.
Rhymes' hits include "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See" and "Dangerous."
