World Wide requests for English Teachers up 300%
Lake County residents recently completed a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) Certification program offered by American TESOL Institute and Florida Training Systems, a Leesburg based company. The eighty hour course prepared them to teach English world wide to students of all ages. Requests for American teachers of English are up 300%. English is recognized as the language of globalization – of international business, transportation, medicine, law and the Internet.
Countries with a high demand for American TESOL instructors include Central America, Western and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia. China, for example, needs one million English speakers for the 2008 Olympics and has mandated that an additional 300 million Chinese be fluent in English by the year 2020.
To meet these demands, Florida Training Systems, an affiliate of American TESOL Institute, offers on-going TESOL programs in Central Florida. These programs provide opportunities for adults to teach English while traveling, living and working abroad.

The Chairman of Samsung Corporation has mandated that English will be the official language of the corporation’s head office in Seoul, Korea, in 2007.China needs another 1,000,000 English speakers for the 2008 Olympics. China wants 300,000,000 English speakers by the year 2020. Chinese officials have also mandated that all high school graduates be able to speak English. Teachers’ salaries in China have increased by 200% since 2001.
American TES0L Institute (ATI) has been training students to teach English overseas since 2002. To date, they have certified over 450 instructors. The company provides on-line basic and advanced TESOL training. Additional certifications in teaching English to Children and Teaching Business English are also available. Currently programs in ESP (English in Special Programs) are being developed in the areas of aviation, medicine and law.
