Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year? It Could Be You.
Last year the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group (IWDIG) announced the official launch of the first ever Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year (IWPOY) Photographic Competition and were overjoyed at the response from over 200 photographers across the Isle of Wight.
Whilst the first IWPOY search ended in October 2006, culminating in the first Awards Ceremony of its kind in December there is also a " Wall of Fame" Exhibition on display at the Quay Arts in February-March 2007.
Amanda Johnson IWPOY Organiser said:
“Valentines Day at the Quay Arts and first night opening of the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year Exhibition, The Cafe Wall Gallery was the perfect setting for the “Wall of Fame”.
There was a buzz to the event as people started to queue outside, waiting in anticipation for the 6pm opening. With an entire wall in the Quay Arts Cafe dedicated to photographs from nearly 50 Island Photographers, a "Wall of Fame" such as this has got to be a first for the Isle of Wight.
Demonstrating the innovation, talent and diversity of Isle of Wight Photographers this Exhibition launches IWPOY 2007, it actively shows what a superb amount of photographic talent and support we have here on the Island.”
Further Exhibitions are planned across the Isle of Wight with the Top Three Images being Exhibited at Dimbola Lodge, former home of Julia Margaret Cameron the first Lady of Island Photography.
Now the search begins for the IWPOY 2007, with its lifestyles theme and free entry, the competition is open for any budding or experienced photographer. If you’d like to be one of the 50 chosen photographers in the next IWPOY “Wall Of Fame” please visit www.iwpoy.iwdig.org galleries now open.
The organisers pride themselves on giving everyone the opportunity to enter for this unique award, thus showing what a great mix of photographers we have here on the Isle of Wight.
