March 15, 2007 (Press Release) --
Brilliantly successful and controversial publisher Judith Regan will publish a behind-the-scenes memoir about the birth of Fox News by a journalist at that time a senior Fox News executive. Privy to virtually every meeting held by Roger Ailes from the day he was hired by Rupert Murdoch until the channel launched in 1996, the executive was one of those who conceived the programming format.
The book begins: "We've all met big fat guys with double chins, literally round, but with dainty feet. These guys are graceful. You have a neighbor like this, maybe an uncle. At a wedding, they hit the dance floor and tip toe around with shiny little shoes so you'd think they were hippos doing a ballet in Walt Disney's "Fantasia". The guys I've met like this are always mild-mannered, as though the slightest assertive sentence might be taken the wrong way because of their sheer girth.
Now, this is a book about me and somebody I worked for named Roger Ailes, and Roger was one of these gliding globes, except there was nothing mild-mannered about him. He was a Thanksgiving day parade balloon filled with poison gas.
Roger Ailes was aroused by his own immorality. He spoke English and menace. Evil exploits got him off. In fact, he was so mean-spirited, so morally bankrupt, you'd think the Devil would hire him to promote temptation and tell the world Hell is actually Heaven. Instead, Rupert Murdoch hired Roger to brainwash America into thinking right-wing ideology is actually the political center. And he did. And, I'm ashamed to tell you, I helped him."
"Naked Launch" has not been completed, but the compelling nature of the content "makes it critically important to put it at the center of the debate about journalistic bias in the United States as we enter Presidential primary season," said Ms. Regan.
