CHICAGO (March 2007)—Sa-wadee Pee Mai, “Happy New Year,” from VONG’S THAI KITCHEN™, Chicago’s premiere Thai establishment located in River North at
6 W. Hubbard Street. VTK honors Thai New Year with its Annual Songkran Festival, Wednesday, April 11th and Thursday, April 12th.
The Songkran Festival is by far the most important event of the year for Thai people. This time-honored tradition pays homage to water, the vital element in the agriculture of Southeast Asia. In Thai tradition the festival celebrates the end of one year, referred to as 'Troot,' and the beginning of a New Year, and referred to as ‘Songkran’.
The Academy of Thai Classical Music of Wat Dhammaram will be accompanied by classical Thai dancers. Dressed in colorful costumes, the dancers glide through the restaurant moving their bodies at seemingly impossible angles. The Musicians masterfully play the xylophone, ja-kae and drums.
Adorned in customary Thai decor, VTK is offering traditional menu specials throughout the week including items such as Scallops Ceviche, Seared Salmon in Lime Coriander Broth, Tamarind Tilapia Noodles and Pad Thai Roll.
