March 19, 2007 (Press Release) --
TWI Summit organizers today announced the keynote presenters for the first annual conference focused on the Training Within Industry Program. Keynote presenters include:
• Norman Bodek – Bodek is the president of PCS Inc., a publishing and consulting company in Vancouver, Washington. In 1979, he started Productivity Inc. Press and published hundreds of management books on productivity, quality, and Lean manufacturing. From his 60 trips to Japan, he met and published the works of the Taiichi Ohno, Dr. Shigeo Shingo, the co-creators of the Toyota Production System (Lean manufacturing), and many other masters in manufacturing improvement.
• John Shook – Shook learned about lean while working for ten years with Toyota, helping that company transfer its production, engineering, and management systems from Japan to its overseas affiliates and suppliers. This real world experience in implementing lean principles throughout an organization gives him extraordinary insights into the challenges faced by those who are interested in lean manufacturing. Today, Shook spends his time researching and developing lean principles with Jim Womack, Dan Jones and Jose Ferro as a senior advisor in the Lean Enterprise Institute.
• Dr. Robert “Doc” Hall – Dr. Hall is Professor Emeritus of the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University. He is a founding member of the Association for Manufacturing Excellence, and is now editor-in-chief of its publication, Target. His experience with Lean operations dates to the late 1970s. Before becoming an academic, Doc worked for Eli Lilly and Union Carbide. Doc’s first book was Zero Inventories in 1983. Now he is working on a seventh, Compression, which makes the case that only by a major change in how we think about business systems can we meet 21st century challenges.
• James Swartz – Throughout Swartz’s career, he has lead aggressive lean manufacturing initiatives that dramatically improve manufacturing operations. He has made it his life work to help organizations find and seize opportunities to be great. To do this, he has researched the basic technical and strategic principles, drivers, mind changes, and methods that lead to rapid dramatic improvements. He has also studied and applied what it takes to develop and sustain aggressive improvement cultures.
The TWI Summit is scheduled for June 5-6, 2007 at the Coronado Springs Resort Hotel and Conference Center on Walt Disney World property. In addition to these keynote presenters, 3 tracks and 6 breakout times will provide 18 workshops. Workshops include discussions of TWI’s use in lean manufacturing, construction, ship building, retail sales, and in secondary schools. Presenters include a mix of operations and training professionals, as well as TWI-experienced consultants.
Sponsors of the Summit include the Association for Manufacturing Excellence, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the TWI Institute, and Superfactory.
