March 21, 2007 (Press Release) --
ECR first began in the USA in 1993 and the UK initiative was formed in 1996 to develop an industry approach to creating a more efficient supply chain focused on the consumer.
ECR UK introduced a UK availability blue book. The book contains many examples by way of summarized case studies of how individual retailers and manufacturers work together, collaboratively, to improve availability on shelf many using Plastic Pallets. These highlight how by addressing issues, the industry can improve on shelf availability for the consumer.
“ECR Europe research shows that out-of-stock are the third most important issue for shoppers across Europe (30%), following a desire for more promotions (52%) and shorter queues (67%)…”
“Asda, Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd and Polymer Logistics UK Ltd case study…Retailers are saving up to 55% from reduced storage, picking and transportation to store costs. Retail store savings of up to 66% from reduced picking, replenishment and shelf space costs using innovative Plastic Pallets.
In addition to the efficiency gains and cost savings outlined above, the new MU’s have aided a more efficient use of space in-store. This rationalization enables increased space to higher volume SKU’s, which were introduced on the MUs.
The use of Plastic Pallets MUs can bring great benefits throughout the supply chain as highlighted through the above case study but static MUs can also provide solutions for merchandising high volume lines which are easy to replenish and are not easily broken.”
