March 22, 2007 (Press Release) --
AN IT technician has been charged with making threats of violence and extortion to relatives of Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien.
Christopher Carrie, 63from Solihull and author of jtolkien.com, will stand trial later this year on four counts of threatening behaviour and one count of extortion. A further allegation of a breach of the peace has been dropped.
Mr Carrie successfully sued the Catholic Church in 2001 for abuse he allegedly suffered whilst within their care. Although the church did not admit liability, Mr Carrie was reportedly paid a five figure sum.
A spokesperson for the Tolkien family declined to comment.
