March 23, 2007 (Press Release) --
Why are celebrities such as Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and The Bachelorette's Trista Rehn choosing Fiji for their romantic honeymoons? Why are young women all across America dreaming of Turtle Island as the perfect way to spend the first days of being newlyweds? Since The Blue Lagoon was released in 1980, Fiji has captured the romantic hearts of couples and became a hotspot for honeymoons, romantic vacations or just fun getaways.
Fiji has 330 islands, some with private resorts and others totally deserted. When imagining a place with white sandy beaches, palm trees, beautiful coral reefs and seclusion, Fiji fits the profile perfectly. Along with this ambiance comes some of the best island hospitality. The Fijian people are always friendly, saying "Bula" (hello) at every turn, going out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable.
With the many years that I spent dreaming about my perfect wedding, I also spent equal time imagining how I would spend the first week with my husband. When choosing my honeymoon destination, I wanted Fiji for all the popular reasons. I melted at the idea of a Turtle Island honeymoon and strolling hand in hand down the beach of the Blue Lagoon. Between media hype and the actual unspoiled reality, it was hard to resist this dream-come-true honeymoon.
Of course, this dream came with a price tag that exceeded our budget. Like many young couples about to be married, we had to pay for our honeymoon. We couldn't imagine spending a year paying off the honeymoon of our dreams, but we did wonder if it was possible to get this paradise at an affordable cost. Luckily for us, Fiji offers a wide range of accommodation prices. To get the best of both worlds, we choose to stay at a resort on the Coral Coast of the main island of Viti Levu. Shopping around and doing our research we were able to obtain both affordable 4-star accommodations the private island experience we longed for.
There are so many excursions to choose from on the islands. If you wanted, you could visit a different island on every day of your vacation. On our first trip out, we set off by boat into the crystal blue waters. We were in awe of how many amazing private islands we saw. After an hour, we arrived at our own island. The larger boats can't get too close to the islands, since the water is too shallow. They bring a smaller boat up to greet you and then you arrive onshore. This whole boat-switching charade can be rather time-consuming and amusing. There were about 30 people on the island, so it is not fully deserted, but it felt like it. It was easy to find ourselves alone and enjoying each other's company. We had found our tropical paradise!
The snorkeling was amazing. Some of the best snorkeling we experienced was off our resort. We swam for hours in the coral reefs and saw hundreds of colorful fish, sea life and plants. If you can afford the luxury of Turtle Island, I would recommend it highly, but if you're like us a
