Hackensack, New Jersey, March 25, 2007
The third Thursday of the month is a special day for young Republicans of Bergen County New Jersey - it's the regular meeting of the group where avid politicos discuss Bergen County politics. On March 22, 2007 the group hosted President Clara Nibot of the county's Hispanic Republican Organization.
"She was inspirational," says Neil Hourihan, a lifelong Republican. "Her story, of overcoming bias and growing the Hispanic organization was motivational, and very timely in terms of the issues the state-wide Republican Organization is currently facing," says Vice-Chair Greg Lois of Ridgewood.
President Nibot talked about overcoming resistance in her own community to foster awareness of the goals of the Republican party and her experiences in Washington, D.C. Nibot was an early support of President Ronald Reagan and the President was influential in the formation of the Bergen County Hispanic Republican Organization.
The Bergen County Young Republicans meet monthly in Hackensack. More information about the Bergen County Young Republicans, including meeting times and locations, can be found at www.bergenyrs.org.
