According to Merchant Research & Consulting Ltd., the current global consumption of silicon products with respect to annual consumption of polycrystalline silicon reaches 10-12K mt/y. However, existing poly-Si production capacities fail to cover the growing demand for this product.
At the present time, both semiconductor and PV industries demonstrate high demand for poly-Si.
Just a few countries are able to produce silicon, while relevant technologies are not offered for sale.
Trichlorosilane and silicon tetrachloride are the main chemical components used in Poly-Si production, which accounts for 60% of the global trichlorosilane consumption.
The electronic industry consumes nearly 80% of globally produced Poly-Si silicon. The current trend is unprecedented growth in the production and consumption of electronic components, primarily chips for PC industry, AV electronics and telecom sector. Analysts predict an annual 30% growth in their consumption.
Russia does not produce trichlorosilane, while the demand for this product in Russia exceeds 12K mt/y.
