Paris plays host to Europe’s largest temporary funfair this spring which attracts over 5m visitors. directline citybreaks (Tel 020 8239 3399) is offering a 2-night weekend break to coincide with this rollercoaster event, departing by Eurostar on 13 April for £194pp.
This huge event takes place at the Pelouse de Reuilly and dates back to the 12thC when gangs of pigs would terrorise the streets of Paris. In recent years the fair has grown to epic proportions with daredevil rides and shows to entertain and scare the visitors. Admission is free with a small fee charged for each individual ride. The ‘Foire du Trône’ as the fair is known locally, is a world away from the cultural clichés of the French capital and maybe that makes it all the more fun.
Accommodation is at the 3* Hotel Les Trois Poussins situated in the heart of the old Saint Georges district between the Opera and the lively Pigalle area. The hotel’s 40 rooms are comfortably furnished and equipped with air-conditioning, WiFi and satellite TV.
The price of £194pp is based on two sharing accommodation with breakfast and includes return Eurostar travel from London Waterloo or Ashford International.
