April 2, 2007 (Press Release) --
The Accurate Risk of Heart Attack from Drug Eluting Stents and What the FDA is Not Doing.
New York, NY, April 2, 2007
The Healthcare Channel (HCC) on http://cortextv.com/ has one story just released today and embargoed until Wednesday, April 4 at 8:00 AM. They both deal with the latest coronary drug eluting stent safety issues.
Story 1: Will the FDA take any action on the late thrombosis safety problems with drug eluting stents?
Since last December when the FDA convened a two-day panel of experts to discuss the evidence that drug eluting stents (DES) are causing long-term heart attack risks, the FDA has not made any action toward restricting the label or limiting the usage of these devices. The agency has simply held meetings to discuss the matter.
The HCC calculated the estimated number of patients that have received stents since that panel and the number of patients that will develop these life-threatening complications. Using the more reasonable risk estimates for late thrombosis, then 22,000 patients in the United States alone will likely develop a heart attack from a late thrombosis as a result of receiving their stent after the FDA safety panel last year.
The HCC speculates as to why the FDA has made no action even though the panel of medical experts voted that there were changes required. The largest companies in the world are affected (JNJ, ABT, BSX, MDT) and an entire specialty of medicine would be adversely affected if the FDA restricted usage of DES.

The HCC has no affiliation with any hedge fund, broker dealer, or other organizations that might bias the content. The business model is advertising revenue based.
