April 2, 2007 (Press Release) --
Since 2005, Daniel Imperato, a United States Presidential Candidate, has spoken out on numerous occasions to ask the Arab League to play a larger role for peace in the Middle East region.
"I want to thank the members of the Arab League for placing their foot forward in the peace process. The more that both sides can move towards a Peace Plan, the better off the Middle East will become," stated Imperato.
Imperato has stated in previous press releases that the Arab League needs to be brought in to the peace process so that there is a local coalition of states working towards peace and not unilateral action by one or a few countries.
The original Arab peace plan was endorsed at the Beirut summit in 2002, offering normal ties with Israel if it fully withdraws from all land it occupied in 1967, permits an independent Palestinian state and provides a "just solution" for the Palestinian refugees.
Israel has rejected the previous Arab peace plan and Israeli officials have refused to accept the revived Arab peace initiative as it stands, saying more negotiations are needed. Shimon Peres, the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister, told Israeli radio on Thursday: "There is only one way to overcome our differences, and that is negotiation. It's impossible to say: 'you must take what we offer you as is,'" said Peres.
Despite the difference of opinion regarding the Arab Peace Plan, Imperato feels that the region is now one step closer towards peace.
"The Arab League has just resolved that they are committed to peace in the region The Arab League wants a just solution, which is more than fair. Now everyone must get together to agree in principle that they are committed to peace. Based upon that point of mutual agreement, I believe that all of the issues and amendments can be resolved for a peaceful Middle East."
