April 4, 2007 (Press Release) --
That empty water bottle or old tire tossed in the lake doesn't disappear. It just sinks to the bottom. Michigan divers and lake lovers are cleaning up some of that mess in a "Dive Into Earth Day" cleanup event on April 22, 2007.
From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm, divers and non-divers will clean up the roadside, parking lots, boat ramp, shoreline and lake bottom of Union Lake in Commerce Township, Michigan.
Over 40 volunteers are expected to participate, including dozens of scuba divers.
In past years divers have recovered heaps of trash from the shoreline and bottom of the lake as part of this project.
Sponsors of the event include Sea The World Scuba Center of Farmington Hills, Aveda Corporation, and Caribou Coffee.
