April 5, 2007 (Press Release) --
China exhibits the highest growth with respect to the demand for polybutylene terephthalate (PBT).
Over the recent years, the PBT market volume in China has increased by 15%, and the experts predict further 10 % growth by 2010.
The total consumption of engineering polyesters, including PBT, topped 900K mt in 2006 (consumption is evaluated on the basis of sales volume).
The demand for PBT is spurred by the electrical and electronic industries, where PBT is widely applied in connectors, circuit breakers, switches, etc. due to its high heat resistance and superior electrical insulation properties.
PBT is used in the manufacture of a wide range of car components, including under bonnet parts, exterior parts (window wiper holders and exterior mirror housing), auto distributors and starters, automotive headlight brackets. The largest increase in usage over recent years is in the rapidly developing sector of automotive electronics, where there is an increasing demand by consumers for more function in their car.
PBT accounts for 7-7.6% of all plastics used in cars. This polymer is providing innovative solutions that save weight and reduce costs: large-volume components, for example, such as mountings or inlet boxes for truck intercoolers, equipment boxes and carrier units (e.g. battery holders). Other applications include water pump impellers, throttle valve housings, ignition distributors and sparkplug connectors.
PBT is universally applied on the home appliance market. An important application of PBT is keyboard buttons. PBT has the wear resistance, chemical resistance, and strength for the application; and perhaps more importantly, it can be dyed.
In the recent year, non-reinforced PBT has become quite popular as a material used in buffer tubes in fibre optics.
The Polybutylene Terephthalate Market Research also features the following information:
PBT trademarks, producers and suppliers;
World PBT market state;
PBT-related investment projects;
To name only a few subjects.
