Over 100 oncologists coming from Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, and Iraq took part in the summit,. Topics covered at the summit included Adjuvant Breast Cancer therapy, reducing recurrence from the start; optimizing the use of Aromatase Inhibitors; and Neoadjuvant therapy in breast cancer cases.
Also discussed at the summit two important and revolutionary medications in tackling the effects of breast cancer, Femara and Zometa. With these treatments, patients are able to reduce the risk of recurrence
Speaking on behalf of Novartis and the summit itself, Mr. Osama Breiwish, Business Unit Head at Novartis Oncology, said, “This topic is of exceedingly high importance, not only in the region, but throughout the world. It is about time we joined the discussion of what can and should be done to at least help curb the effects of breast cancer. Novartis has been working diligently to bring forward such solutions.”
The different sessions of the summit were chaired by five highly esteemed doctors in the field of oncology, including Dr. Samir Al-Kayed, Head of the National Cancer Registry at the Ministry of Health in Jordan; Dr. Nader Qasem, oncology/hematology specialist from Beirut; Dr. Khdayer Sabih, oncology/hematology expert in the Uranium Medical Research Center in Baghdad; Dr. Sami Al-Khatib, Chief Arab oncology/hematology expert; and Dr. Fawaz Deirawan, oncology/hematology expert from Tishreen Syrian Hospital.
Mr. Osama Breiwish added, “Through the use of such important medications as Femara and Zometa, we are able to tip the balance in our favor and achieve great progress in treating breast cancer.”
