April 12, 2007 (Press Release) --
Elisabeth Shue is training hard at tennis. The World Entertainment News Network reports the star of Leaving Las Vegas and the upcoming June 1st family film Gracie, inspired by Shue's own record breaking teenage soccer years in New Jersyey, is looking at a second career as a professional tennis player.
Although she doesn’t ever expect to reach the top-seed level, she does hope to be competing, even at the lowest professional level, by September.
She told WENN: “I’ve been training so hard, now I feel like more of a tennis player than an actress.” There is precedent of course. A few years ago, Geena Davis, who is very proficient with a longbow, came within a whisker of making the US Olympic Archery Team.
Shue received an Oscar nom for her role as a gutsy prostitute in Leaving Las Vegas. She was on the big screen in the 2005 thriller Hide and Seek and the family drama Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story.
This summer she will be seen alongside her brother Andrew Shue and Dermont Mulroney in the soccer drama Gracie.
Inspired by Shue's teenage life, the film has Shue now playing the mom rather than the teenage girl trying to crack the boys' high school soccer team.
