April 12, 2007 (Press Release) --
Besides headliners Pearl Jam -- playing what will reportedly be the grunge giants' only U.S. show in 2007 -- the third installment of the reincarnated Lollapalooza Festival this morning is scheduled to announce the other acts receiving top billing at the massive concert.
They include dance-punks Daft Punk, jam favorites Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, English hypes Muse, the venerable Iggy and the Stooges, alternative rockers Modest Mouse, New Wave revivalists Interpol and the alt-country band My Morning Jacket.
Austin, Texas, promoters C3 Presents announced the lineup for the festival, which will take place Aug. 3-5 in Grant Park.
Like the 2006 event, which promoters say drew 166,000 fans and raised more than $928,000 for the Parkways Foundation, Lollaplooza 2007 will feature 130 bands, in addition to midway activities such as Kidzapalooza and the Mind Field, described as "part guerilla theater, part technology and part game show."
Most of the acts are from the alternative realm, with several part of the Pitchfork or Intonation festival lineups the last two years. There is also a smattering of worldbeat and hip-hop, including Chicago rappers Lupe Fiasco and Rhymefest, but there are only a handful of other local acts on the bill.
Tickets are on sale through www.lollapalooza.com. Promoters have eliminated service charges, though base prices for the tickets have increased: The "early-bird tickets" available now are $165 for a three-day pass, while prices will increase to $195 for a three-day pass.
