April 12, 2007 (Press Release) --
The formerly untitled project to star Jackie Chan and Jet Li now has a title as well as a shooting date.
One of 2008’s big fall action films is just about to go before the cameras. Shooting is set to begin next month on The Forbidden Kingdom, the first ever teaming of the biggest martial arts stars in the business: Jet Li and Jackie Chan.
The movie involves a teenager who discovers an ancient Chinese weapon in a pawnshop. The magic of the weapon takes him back in time to ancient China, where he becomes embroiled in a battle to free the imprisoned Monkey King. Jet Li will play both the Monkey King and a character called the Silent Monk. Chan is set to play another lead role as T’sa-ho.
Rob Minkoff, well known for directing the animated hit The Lion King, and the special effects heavy Stuart Little, will direct the film. Yuen Woo-Ping, fight choreographer for The Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will be handling the action sequences, undoubtedly with some help from the leads. The eagerly anticipated teaming of Jet Li and Jackie Chan will find its way into the theatres in the fall of next year.
