April 13, 2007 (Press Release) --
The family of Kim Sok Bong, director of the Oryong-ri People’s Hospital in Mundok County, South Phyongan Province, is called the family of soldiers, because his four sons and daughters are all the soldiers of the Korean People’s Army.
His family has five KPA enlistment certificates which are regarded as the family treasure, belonging to father Kim Sok Bong and sons and daughters Kim Myong Dok, Kim Myong Mun, Kim Myong Hwa and Kim Myong Suk.
Their grandfather was killed in the struggle against the US imperialist aggressors to defend the country during the Korean war (June 1950-July 1953).
Today the younger generation of the Kims stand firm in the posts of national defence, holding the rifles, in place of their grandfather and father.
On the day when he joined the army Kim Myong Dok, the eldest son, said:
“Father and Mother, I know well why my grandfather gave his life to defend the country. Without the country we cannot think of the happiness of our family. So, I will follow my grandfather and father.”
Kim Sok Bong felt satisfied with his eldest son’s determination.
Following the suit of the eldest, the second son, Myong Mun, and the eldest daughter, Myong Hwa, were also enlisted in the army.
Only the youngest daughter Myong Suk was at home.
The parents wanted to live together with their favourite child.
She was the top student of the Mundok Middle School No. 1 and had a taste for literature. The parents had a mind to send her to a university in place of their sons.
On the eve of graduation of the school she looked at the album carrying the photos of her elder sister in military uniform. Then she told her mother.
“Mother, I will also follow the footsteps of brothers and sister. After discharge of military service I will go to university.”
Her mother Ri Pok Sun was moved.
“Right, the security of the country guarantees that of our family.”
Though the mother knew she would be lonely, she was proud of her daughter’s resolve.
Thus the youngest daughter Myong Suk also became a soldier.
Whenever the letters from the offsprings at the army posts come home, Kim Sok Bong and his wife feel happy as the parents of fully-fledged soldiers.
There are a number of such families of soldiers in Korea, so the country is strong and firm.
