The Korean people, who adorned the last year 2006 as a year of great victory full of great ambition and confidence, have begun a worthwhile general advance to usher in a great heyday of Songun Korea full of confidence in victory.
The joint editorial published by Rodong Sinmun, Josoninmingun and Chongnyonjonwi, the leading newspapers of the DPRK, on the first day of the year, put the main stress on the need to concentrate national efforts on solving economic problems. It also suggested that the main task in the present general march is to direct primary effort to rapidly improving the people’s standard of living and at the same time to step up technical reconstruction to put the national economy on a modern footing and develop its potentials to the full.
Then, what is important in implementing the main task of the general march this year?
First of all, primary effort is to be directed to rapidly improving the people’s lving standard, thus making a radical turn.
It is the supreme principle of the Workers’ Party of Korea in its activities to improve the people’s living standard. In carrying the WPK’s policy into effect, it is important to keep up farming as the great foundation of the country and make an epoch-making advance in solving the problem of food for the people. Then a revolution in light industry should be waged to decisively improve the production of consumer goods. Continuous improvement should be brought about in the distribution of commodities and service work as required by the intrinsic nature of a socialist society, thus providing the people evenly with essential consumer goods of high quality. The officials of all units should pay close attention to supply service work for their employees.
Technical reconstruction should be stepped up to put the national economy on a modern footing.
The present era is the time of science and technology. An economy, if it fails to be supported by modern science and technology, cannot expect its perspective development. Introduction of up-to-date scientific and technical achievements into practice is a top-priority task in guaranteeing the economic development.
It is the WPK’s economic policy to step up technical reconstruction for economic modernization in conformity with present realities when the IT industry is making steady progress and all the management activities and production are getting on a scientific and intellectual basis. Therefore, all sectors and units should put themselves on a modern footing by drawing on the latest science and technology, thoroughly implementing the Party’s policy of attaching importance to science and technology. They should also bring science and technology close to production and unfold a mass drive for technical innovation, and thus bring about a radical development in the technical upgrading of the national economy and in the production and management.
