April 14, 2007 (Press Release) --
Then what principle is the Juche idea based on?
It is based on the philosophical principle that man is the master of everything and decides everything.
It is the principle that gives an answer to the problem of the position and role man takes and plays in the world.
That man is the master of everything means that he is the master of the world and of his own destiny.
Man has the properties of independence, creativity and consciousness.
These are the social qualities which man acquires in the process of forming a social group and living in the social relationship, and cannot be found in any other organisms.
Independence is an attribute of man as a social being who is desirous of living and developing in an independent way free from the subjugation and fetters of nature and society. Creativity is an attribute of social man who transforms the world and shapes his destiny purposefully and consciously. Consciousness is an attribute which determines all his endeavours to understand and reshape the world and himself.
As man has these attributes, he understands the surrounding world, and based on it, conducts purposeful and conscious activities for his existence and development.
All animals maintain their lives by adapting themselves to the environment, but man lives developing the environment suitable for him.
If man had adapted himself to the condition just like an animal, he would not have reached the stage of the present human being, and moreover, something like the conquer of the space cannot be dreamed of.
Who achieved the development of humanity is man himself.
There is no instance over the whole process of development of the human being that there have been special or absolute beings which saved and shaped the destiny of man. Only with his own power, man has hewn out his own destiny, changing the surrounding world.
Though there are many material beings in the world, man alone lives subordinating the world to him. Man, therefore, takes the position of master. Man plays the decisive role in the change and development of the world.
That man decides everything means that he plays the decisive role in transforming the world and in shaping his destiny. Objective conditions and materialistic and technological means play big roles in transforming the world and in shaping his destiny, of course. But the effect of such conditions and materialistic and technological means is decided by the role of man.
The natural environments such as the flood, drought and typhoon which used to give disaster to the people are efficiently controlled by building the reservoir and the power station, and the robot and computer substitute the intelligence of man—all of these are created by the man. All material and cultural assets the man created exert great influence on the activity of man and on its result. As the activity of man has a decisive effect compared to the outside factors, it is said that man plays the decisive role in transforming world.

One is the master of one's destiny and has the potential to shape one’s own destiny.
This is the essence of the Juche idea.
