April 14, 2007 (Press Release) --
Recently Kim Il Sung University is gaining popularity by making Risedronate, a highly efficacious bone metabolism invigorator, in a Korean way. In fact the medicine is being produced only in a few countries.
The medicine is a third-generation precision inductive medicine quite efficacious in inhibiting osteoclasis and treatment. It is 5000 times higher than the earlier ones in inhibiting osteoclasis alone.
It can be said that senility of a human body starts with osteoporosis, a bone disease caused by deficient metabolism of calcium of bone tissue.
Risedronate is so efficient in controlling and invigorating bone metabolism that it has got quite popular with numerous people, as well as the aged and those with bone-related diseases.
It increases the content of mineral matters in bones to heighten the consistency of bone and increase the quantity of bone. It kills or alleviates pain in bones, and prevents bones from breaking or deforming easily.
It won a DPRK patent in September last year.
The makers of the medicine are lecturer Jang Yong Man and researcher Kim Song Un of the chair of organic chemistry of the chemistry faculty, both at the age of 33 this year.
After finishing the middle school course under the 11-year compulsory education system, they entered and studied together at Kim Il Sung University. After graduation, both of them attended the postgraduate school. In those days they won the titles of Master of Science, and the academic world recognized them as promising young men.
Since beginning to work as researchers, they, with a high aim, have steadily accumulated knowledge. On the other hand they thought of a research theme of practical utility.
One day Jang witnessed a scene of the leader Kim Jong Il, who all the Korean people revere and follow as their father, showing great concern for the people’s health and longevity and having birthday tables sent to centenarians. He fell into deep thought: I am a citizen of this country, too. So I should do something for the people’s health and longevity, true to the leader’s intention. Herein lies the value and worth of my career.
He bared his thoughts to his close friend Kim Song Un, who sympathized with his idea.
Subsequently they set about the research for a new medicine.
Day after day and month after month they made unremitting efforts. Sometimes they spent nights studying documents. After finding the clue, they repeatedly made experiments without leaving the laboratory.
At last they succeeded in making the up-to-date medicine radically different from the previous ones in pharmacological function and quite efficacious in treatment.
Later the medicine went through clinical trials at the Red Cross General Hospital of Korea and Pyongyang People’s Hospital No. 2 and turned out very effective.
The medicine makes it possible to make great progress in preventing and curing bone diseases such as osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Now the two men are making joint efforts again to make a new precision inductive medicine.
