April 14, 2007 (Press Release) --
Dominic Scott Kay, 10, who supplied the voice of Wilbur the pig, talked to the Sun-Times bringing the adorable porcine to life.
Q. Did you have a fondness for pigs before you did this film?
A. (Laughs) I really did. I've always wanted a pet potbelly pig. So does my mommy. We love farm animals. We'd love to have a miniature goat or pig around the house. We're totally into rescuing animals and finding them good homes. I'd definitely name him Wilbur, too.
Q. You've done voiceover work in "Air Buddies" and "The Wild." How involved are voiceovers?
A. It took about two years to do "Charlotte's Web" and my voice actually changed. Wilbur's voice toward the end of the movie is a little older sounding. I love doing both acting and voiceover because they're so different and so challenging in different ways.
Q. Did you get to work with Julia Roberts?
A. She had had her babies at the time so they flew me out to New Mexico to record with her on her ranch. She was so nice and so funny.
Q. You also worked with Tom Cruise in "Minority Report." What's it like to work with him?
A. I was only 4 but it was so cool. We're still friends today.
Q. Did you always want to be an actor?
A. Since I was about 2, I've always been doing little plays at my house after church. I'd get up on my table and do sermons. I've always been into special effects. My daddy plays drums for the Commodores and I went to my first concert when I was 12 days old. So I've always loved being in entertainment.
Q. What did you learn from the story of "Charlotte's Web"?
A. It shows the cycle of life -- sacrifice, friendship, loyalty. It's such a great story that can touch people spiritually.
