This is something I think you should know.
Indiana Gregg is a star.
Ok, I know that is quite a bold statement to make, but sometimes you just know. I interviewed Indiana in February before the tour and the single was released. I liked the powerful opening words in her single "Sweet Thing" and I thought there was something special about her musical and lyrical style. Something different that you don't hear everyday.
It was only after I received her CD, with a limited edition artwork of the album cover, that I knew I was right in my original gut feel. There was something different.
First of all, there's the lyrics.
"Time Stood Still, As I Passed Time". The words are gently teased out in Love Is Blind, a song which she performed in an acoustic set at the Hammersmith Apollo. Indiana was supporting Lemar and had arranged some tickets for me to see her in action.
Then there's the warmth.
Halfway through the concert, Indiana asked the audience if they would mind singing Happy Birthday to her daughter. The sweet sound of a delighted young Scots girl amplified across the Apollo as she heard the audience singing.
Then there's the partying.
I have never seen a debut performer get an audience so involved in the music as Indiana did with her quirky "Oh Me Oh My". She managed to turn an angst ridden time at home; with the plumber needing to fix her shower, unemployed and the "baby's sleeping in her bed", into a hand-swaying up-beat dance number.
There's even a summer song.
"Every day, I feel lucky, that I'm livin, in a groovy kinda wonderful world"
Need I say more ? Groovy Kinda Wonderful World is so infectious that I would suggest you go right down to William Hill and bet for it to be a summer number 1. Or better still, just go out and buy the album and drop me a note if you agree.
Then there's the Woman At Work
I've always said there is no such thing as overnight success. It takes years to be successful in most businesses in the world, and that's especially true of the music industry. Despite what the public see, there's a LOT of hard work, creative energy, tenacity, drive and networking to be done to get on the first rung of the ladder. Indiana Gregg is on it now. Watch her climb.
