April 17, 2007 (Press Release) --
Following on from breaking for the first time the sub-Rs30,000 and then the Rs20,000 price barriers for entry-level laptop computers, ACi, country’s first laptop specialist company, yet again creates history by launching India’s first “slick and slim” Intel Centrino based high-end wireless laptop for below Rs25,000.
ACi Emerald model on offer for Rs24,999 (plus Taxes) will boast a powerful Intel Pentium M 1.6 GHz CPU (upgradeable to 2.2GHz), a crisp 15.1” glare TFT screen, Combo Drive, 256 MB RAM (upgradeable to 2GB), 40 GB HDD (upgradebale to 120 GB), built-in wireless LAN - all in a slim and slick looking housing weighing only 2.4Kg with 6-cell battery pack.
In order to fulfill its vision of “DEVELOPING INDIA AS A LAPTOP NATION”, ACi, a research based laptop manufacturer, since launch in June 2002, has continuously been developing solutions to make laptops affordable for all the masses. Two years of industry study and research helped ACi fulfill its first promise of breaking the sub-Rs30,000 with its sturdy and most reliable model, ACi Ethos VIA. This forced the competition to drive their laptop price down later from Rs40,000+ to below Rs30,000 in the forth quarter of the same year. After the market settled at Rs30,000 for entry-level laptops, ACi reacted and broke the sub-Rs20,000 price barrier with the same model in March 2006.
With ACi collecting no less than four industry awards for Best performance, Quality and Value in year 2007 and further collecting Best performance award in April 2008 in major group test conducted by CHIP magazine, ACi maintaining highest quality of products whilst pushing down prices still remain a myth amongst all IT vendors. Where will the promoter, Mr Hirji Patel, an NRI and ex-missile scientist from UK, will take the notebook market next is something everyone is watching with great patience.
However, Mr. Patel has in the past hinted that he will drive the notebook prices right down to as low as Rs10,000 before he steps up his gear to “overdrive” and achieve his final goal of offering full blown laptops at what seems an impossible price of Rs. 5,000 !!!!!!
